What to do
Make sure to correctly identify the type of pest you are dealing with first and to take steps to control the pest population by insect or rodent-proofing your home. If you decide to use a pesticide, make sure you buy a product that includes the name of the pest you are trying to control on the label. Always follow these pesticide safety tips: Only purchase and use pesticides that have been registered by Health Canada for their intended use. Carefully read all label instructions and warnings before buying or using pesticides. Only buy the amount of the product needed for the treatment. Use a pesticide only for its stated purpose. For example, never use a pesticide indoors when it is intended for outdoor use. Never mix different pesticides together, unless the instructions tell you to do so.
