Savaria and Garaventa branded Residential Elevators recalled due to Entrapment Hazard

Issue
In installations with exterior swing-style landing (hoistway) doors, some doors may have been installed incorrectly, creating hazardous gaps between the exterior swing-style landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door. Children can become entrapped in the space and suffer serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor. As of February 25, 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

What to do
Consumers should immediately block children's access to the residential elevators. If the hazard exists, Savaria / Garaventa will send consumers space guards at no cost to the consumer. Support with measurement and installation is available from the company upon request. For more information, consumers can contact Savaria by telephone toll-free at 1-855-983-5520 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, or visit the company’s recall information website for instructions and video demonstration of space guard installation. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form .
