PIEPS and Black Diamond Avalanche Transceivers and Beacons recalled due to risk of search function loss during emergencies

Issue
A defect in the electronics may prevent the unit from switching from SEND mode into SEARCH mode, resulting in no additional aid in the search and rescue process in the case of an avalanche. As of June 10 th , 2022, the company has received 2 reports of product failure in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 26 reports of product failure, and no reports of injuries.

What to do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled transceiver or beacon, follow the directions on the Black Diamond website to perform a device check, and contact Black Diamond Equipment for a repair or replacement if the product is malfunctioning. For more information, consumers can contact Black Diamond Equipment toll-free at 866-306-0865 between 9 am and 4 pm MT Monday through Friday, or on the company website . Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Black Diamond Equipment. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind Canadians to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form .
