Petzl NOMIC and ERGONOMIC Ice Axes recalled due to fall hazard

The shaft at the handle of certain batches of NOMIC and ERGONOMIC ice axes may fail without warning during use, posing a fall hazard that could result in serious injury or death. As of March 5, 2026, the company has received 8 reports of ice axes experiencing a shaft failure in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the United States, the company has received 26 reports of a shaft failure and no reports of injuries.

What to do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Petzl for a free replacement shaft. For more information, consumers can contact Petzl by telephone toll-free at 1-877-807-3805 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. MT Monday through Friday, by email at Returns@petzl.com or visit the company website . Joint recall with Health Canada, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) and Petzl America, Inc. Please note that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. Health Canada would like to remind consumers to report any health or safety incidents related to the use of this product or any other consumer product or cosmetic by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form .
