1983–1984 Western Star Conventional Recall

Issued October 11, 1984
Issue
Hazard description
On certain trucks, the governor flyweight shield may become loose or break off from the flyweight carrier due to an incorrect shield to carrier fit. The loose/broken shield may interfere with the operation of the governor weights and movement of the governor linkage. This interference would not allow the engine to reduce in speed when the accelerator control is released. Unexpected loss of engine control may result in a vehicle crash when the vehicle is in an area where movement is restricted.
