1999 Kawasaki Kf300 Recall

Issued December 14, 1998
Issue
Hazard description
On certain vehicles, the fuel tank may absorb too much heat from the engine and the exhaust pipe. As the fuel heats, it evaporates, pressurizing the fuel tank. If the fuel tank vent cannot relieve the rise in pressure, the tank will bulge. If the bottom of the tank bulges enough to touch the engine, it can melt through and spill fuel onto the hot engine and exhaust pipe, possibly causing a fire. Correction: Fuel tank will be inspected and replaced if necessary. Heat shields will be installed and fuel tank cap vent will be modified.
