1999 Norcold N821 Recall

Issued June 19, 2000
Issue
Hazard description
On certain 3-way refrigerators (propane AC and DC), a low cycle fatigue failure could occur in the section of the cooling unit which generates the refrigerant. This occurs due to elevated heat when the refrigerator is operated in the AC power mode. This fracture can cause the liquid solution to leak from the cooling unit and can result in the generation of very high temperatures. This can in turn cause the steel material to soften and rupture and if the pressurizing hydrogen gas is still in place when the rupture occurs, the gas may be expelled and possibly be ignited by the high temperature causing a fire. Correction: A new cooling unit will be installed.
