Hazard description
Certain snowmobiles may experience fuel tank explosions under specific operating conditions. Should the vehicle be left idling in temperatures of less than -30 degrees Celsius, and with less than 50% relative humidity, electrostatic charges could accumulate on components within the fuel tank. At a certain level of electrostatic build-up, a discharge suddenly occurs, sparking in the vapour space volume of the partially filled tank, igniting a combustible mixture of gasoline and air. The resultant explosion could cause personal injury or death to a bystander or operator, as well as allowing fuel spillage, and possibly resulting in a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel line and filter assembly with a revised version having higher electric conductivity. This will allow a proper ground path for fuel system components to the chassis, thereby preventing electrostatic accumulation, and subsequent discharge.
